Meet your Creative Mentor

“My time under Louise’s direction has been an absolute highlight of my time at University of Cambridge. I come back to her word like it is gold. In terms of character development, her background in acting and later directing actors has created honest, and interesting voices in my scripts. She provides dense feedback and never says what I expect her to say/point out. I’ve had long-term screenwriting tutors before who I thought were incredible, but I now realize were pale in comparison to someone who truly cares about writing and cares about writers.”

- MSt Writing for Performance Student, University of Cambridge

The more I came to understand myself, the more inspired and open I have become to receiving and expanding on ideas. It’s a brilliant feeling to nurture an idea into a realised project. I’ve worked on films, plays, immersive theatre and have mentored students across the spectrum of performance-led pursuits. My calling card short film How to be Human (a film I created and acted in) became a success story and opened my career to multiple opportunities and avenues. I recently produced a feature film (that I also acted in) and completed a personal goal in the process. I’ve spent years learning how to build a creative life on my own terms, and I now help other people do the same.

These creative 1-2-1 sessions are opportunities for us to focus on your creative development. We can identify the obstacles you’re facing, whether that’s with a project or within your process, and together we’ll create actionable steps that help move you forward and closer to your creative goals.

I’m a big fan of mind-maps, objectives and creative writing exercises to get you thinking in different ways. With my background in acting, I’ve also come to realise that our work and our selves are very closely linked. When we work on ourselves, we work on all of our projects too, and it’s with an open, non-judgmental mindset that I like to approach these sessions, so that you feel creatively fulfilled and connected with your artistic self.

Examples of what we could cover in our sessions together:

  • Bigger picture planning - where you want to go and a map for how to get there

  • Creating a plan of action with manageable, feasible steps

  • Accountability and feedback

  • Articulating the premise of your idea(s)

  • Finding the heart of your story and shaping its structure

  • Understanding what your character wants and why it matters (drawing from a variety of acting approaches to guide your development)

  • Getting clearer on your project’s trajectory and what steps to take next
